It’s January 2023 – and a lot of you may have big fitness goals for the new year. But, you may not know where to start.

It’s hard to know what kind of workouts you like without trying them out. I’ve tried a lot of classes and a lot of workout apps from barre, to boxing, to running, to yoga to HIIT workouts, and beyond. I’ve found that what my body needs and craves for movement changes in each season. But you won’t know what works for you until you start experimenting.
If you follow me on socials, you know that the workout program I’ve been following for the last year is Moves by Madeline. But what you may not know is that I’ve been doing Melissa Wood Health workouts for over 3 years now, so I feel pretty qualified to write a review of my overall thoughts. You’ll see exactly why I fell in love with the MWH Method below.

*This is not a sponsored post – I know there are a lot of workout programs out there so I wanted to share my genuine thoughts on one of the workout apps I use to hopefully help if anyone is looking for one!
MOST ASKED QUESTIONS:
First things first… Who is Melissa Wood?
Melissa Wood-Tepperberg is a wife & mom of two young kids living in New York City. She is a lover of all things health, wellness, movement & mindfulness, and created Melissa Wood Health to “make mindful movements attainable and accessible for all.” She has her certifications in teaching both yoga and pilates, and she also teaches meditation after seeing the positive changes in incorporating it into her daily life.
What is the Melissa Wood Health Method?
The MWH Method is about more than just flexible, low-impact movement, it’s about consistently choosing to show up for yourself. From what started as a digital platform, to what then expanded to an app, to most recently updating her app with the addition of 6 more thoughtfully chosen instructors to help lead even more class options. The MWH Method is a combination of both yoga & pilates with mindfulness at the forefront of every class.
What kind of workouts does MWH offer?
The Melissa Wood Health app includes various workout levels ranging from beginner to challenging. Her classes include yoga flows, pilates series, modifications for pregnancy and postpartum (loved this feature while I was pregnant with Blakely + postpartum), meditations, treadmill & pool series, and more. Her classes often target a certain area of the body like “10 Minute Power Arms” or “18 Minute Full Body Sculpt.” She recently added dance flows, sculpt classes, and a barre & standing series. All of her workouts are designed to not only help you see results on the outside, but equally to see a shift in mindfulness on the inside.
How much does a MWH membership cost?
The Melissa Wood Health membership it is still as affordable as it was when I first joined 3 years ago. Monthly, the app costs $10 and annually is cost $99. She does offer a 7 day free trial for you to experiment with the workouts and explore all that the app has to offer. I love to use her meditations and stretching classes the most for the season I’m in, though I will incorporate some of her other yoga + pilates classes if I’m not feeling up to a gym workout or on the weekends.
Can I do the workouts from home?
Yes yes yes! This was HUGE for me during Covid when I literally couldn’t go out to the gym. I was also pregnant at the time, which was even more helpful to have low-impact pregnancy safe movement I could do in the comfort of my own home.
What equipment do I need?
You technically don’t NEED any equipment to complete her workouts! The only thing I’d highly recommend is a yoga mat! I use this one from Lululemon that I love, but Amazon has affordable options & even Melissa Wood sells yoga mats on her site. If you are looking for more of a challenge & to see faster toning results, I’d recommend starting with:
- 1 lb ankle weights
- booty bands (these are the ones I have and LOVE)
What kind of results will I see from these workouts?
During my pregnancy and after, I used MWH as my daily movement and not only noticed such a shift in focus towards a more mindful lifestyle, but gained an increase in core strength being postpartum. Melissa really advocates for long lean lines & overall toning of the body. If you’re looking for a workout app that allows you to do something good for your body, is affordable, accessible, easy to follow, fits any schedule, the perfect amount of challenge & overall a way to become more mindful, this one is for you!
FAVORITE FEATURES ON THE APP:
THE COLLECTIONS
There are so many options of classes to take on the app – you literally can’t run out of workouts. She is constantly adding new classes to her platform and switching it up from yoga, pilates, full body, power series, and beyond. I love that she recently created a 30 day kickstart program that makes it so easy for new users to follow and hop right into a beginner program to follow.

VARIOUS CREATORS
This new addition to the app has 6 specifically chosen instructors + Melissa to lead different classes. Users now have the option to choose who they want to be their teacher for the day which I love! If you really liked the way Nikki teaches, for example, you can click on her and see all of the class options that she teaches.

WEEKLY SCHEDULE
This is another cool feature that allows you to select your workout level and then whatever day it is and it will give you that workout for the week! The workouts for each day obviously changes week to week, but it just shows how much the app is constantly updating and is really shown a lot of love and attention.

NUTRITION TAB
I love this section of the app! Melissa includes food prep, meal ideas, tips and tricks to help debloat and other topics. I think this part of the app really helps it stand out from other apps and adds so much value for what users pay.

LIFESTYLE TAB
Another part of the app that adds so much value! The lifestyle tab includes blog posts on meditation habits, beauty hacks, mindfulness and more.

LIVE CLASSES
The live classes that Melissa offers really helps differentiate her app from a lot of other ones out there. She will post on her Instagram to let users know when she plans to go live and users can tune in. But in case you missed it, she has all of her live classes on her app for us to go back and try out too!

OVERALL THOUGHTS + REVIEW:
There is a reason why I have consistently subscribed to Melissa Wood Health for years now! Not only do I leave each and every workout class feeling a positive shift in my energy, but I feel like I am doing something so good for both my body AND mind. I feel the burn every class. But I also love that she incorporates some kind of stretching throughout each class too for that release we crave.
There is truly something for everyone in the app. I love that if you’re completely short on time but really want to fit in movement, she has classes that are as short as a 5 minutes… and yes, you still feel the burn. Most of her classes range around the 20-30 minute mark which is perfect for squeezing something in for ourselves during our busy days. No excuses!
Something else that I love is she 100% takes feedback from her MWH community and is consistently updating and adding user friendly features that are requested by us. She always asks what kind of classes we want to see, and she truly listens!
Overall, if you aren’t familiar with Melissa Wood, she is such an inspirational and relatable person to follow. She has the most calming presence and vibe, is a fabulous instructor, & truly makes you feel like you are working out alongside one of your friends. Her app and flexible schedule it offers makes it super easy to stay accountable, especially with new 2023 goals. If you’re looking for a new app to try this year, I wouldn’t think twice about joining the Melissa Wood Health app + community.
