Rockbox Fitness Review – Trying Boxing For The First Time

May 10, 2022

My first workout class in Atlanta & my first studio review! As you may know, I am super passionate about prioritizing my health, and fitness is a big part of my life.

Trying new workouts is especially fun so you don’t get burned out doing the same thing. Plus, it’s nice to have a new challenge every once and a while.

This past Saturday Casey and I tried our first boxing-based class and we both loved it! With it being our first time, it definitely helped to feel less intimidating to go to the class together. From the moment we walked in, the trainers were super welcoming. We signed waivers, bought wraps for our hands, wrapped our hands with help from the trainer, and then learned the 6 punches and 3 kicks.

Punching and kicking felt a little awkward at first since I had never done it. But as the class went on, it felt more natural and I got more comfortable. If it’s your first time, don’t worry if it doesn’t come naturally. Even the trainer said when he first started he felt awkward and uncomfortable too.

The workout itself was very fast paced and challenging, but it made me feel SO strong and powerful. And it was fun! Though it is challenging, I’d say it’s still welcoming for beginners like Casey and I. The trainers were super helpful and patient with us practicing all of the different combos at the bag. The overall studio vibe was super upbeat and the loud music during the workout definitely helped me zone out and get lost in the workout. 50 minutes flew by!!

ROCKBOX FITNESS SANDY SPRINGS REVIEW:

DURATION: 50 minutes

DESCRIPTION: The class was broken up into half the time at the bag and then the other half rotating through 10 strength training/HIIT stations, and then about a 5 minute finisher at the bag. (5 rounds each at two boxing stations). We went on a lower body focused day, so for the station part of the workout we worked lower body with dumbbells, kettlebells, benches and bands. At the bags, everyone got their own bag and each round was timed.

SWEAT LEVEL: πŸ’¦πŸ’¦πŸ’¦πŸ’¦/5 I am not one to easily break a sweat, but I was definitely sweating! Casey said β€œthat’s the most I’ve sweat since football in high school.”

SORE LEVEL: πŸ’ͺ🏼πŸ’ͺ🏼πŸ’ͺ🏼.5/5 especially after your first class and using muscles you might not have used often. I am feeling it in my arms and back the day after!!!

PROPS: gloves are free for your first class, and wraps are required and are $13, but are yours to keep. The trainers will help you wrap your hands if you need.

TIPS: get there 30 minutes early for your first class to learn the different types of punches and kicks. BREATHE while you box. Ask for help when you need!

Overall a heart pumping memorable class that I’ll definitely be going back to!
