Happy Wednesday and happy (almost) officially fall! Tomorrow the 22nd of September is the first day of fall, but I couldn’t wait a second longer to get these book recs out to you!
I have to know- when you think of curling up with a book on a crisp fall evening, what genre of book comes to mind?
When I think of autumn books, I think mystery, historical fiction, fantasy and thrillers. I think this is because summer gives off happy, romance novel vibes, so after a few months of reading books like that I’m ready for a genre change.
For the recs, I included a list of those four genres. I kept the list fairly short and sweet in hopes to not overwhelm you!! I tried to find a balance between recommending enough to last you through the fall & not recommending too many that you don’t even know where to start!
Lastly, I want to leave you with a fall challenge. I encourage you to get out of your reading comfort zone and try out a different genre! Maybe you never read fantasy books? I have two amazing recommendations that you can’t go wrong with trying out. The worst that can happen is you don’t like it!
Something out of my comfort zone is thrillers, so I am challenging myself to read something that I wouldn’t normally pick up this fall.
With that said, this list of book recommendations is either books I have already read, am currently reading, or plan to read this fall! Let me know in the comments any books I didn’t add that should be on this fall’s to be read list!
FALL 2022 BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS
MYSTERY/THRILLER:
RUN ROSE RUN by Dolly Parton & James Patterson
This book intrigued me from first glance since it was written by coauthor Dolly Parton. I’ve heard this thriller is full of suspense, an exciting plot & is set in the heart of Nashville.

THE GUEST LIST//THE PARIS APARTMENT by Lucy Foley
If you’re looking for a good thrill & engaging mystery, Lucy Foley books are it. I read The Guest List and really enjoyed it, and am planning to read The Paris Apartment this fall. Her books are fast-paced, cliff-hanger inducing & will have you guessing “whodunit” until the end.

THE LAST MRS. PARRISH by Liv Constantine
One of my best friends has recommended this book to me for months now, and I am finally going to read it this fall!! I love a good psychological thriller book, and with as many good reviews as this one has I’m sure it won’t disappoint.

A FLICKER IN THE DARK by Stacy Willingham
Everyone loves a good plot twist, and this book *apparently* has one you won’t see coming. Though I haven’t read it yet, I’ve been seeing this book everywhere and cannot wait to dive into it this fall!

THE SILENT PATIENT by Alex Michaelides
This was one of the first psychological thrillers I’ve ever read and wow, it is still one of my favorites to this day. It’s an unforgettable must read for this fall.

THE GOOD SISTER by Sally Hepworth
The best word to describe this thriller is clever!! I flew through this book & loved how it was filled with wit, suspense and drama.

VERITY by Colleen Hoover
I absolutely devoured this book. This is probably the fastest I have ever read a novel. All I can say is if you haven’t read it, head to Amazon or your local bookstore & get it for the fall!!!

HISTORICAL FICTION:
CARRIE SOTO IS BACK by Taylor Jenkins Reid
This is the newest TJR book and I was just gifted this from my parents for my birthday! I am currently reading a TJR book right now, and once I finish this is the book I am picking up next! She is one of my favorite authors & I definitely wanted to add a new release to the fall book recs.

THE NIGHTINGALE by Kristin Hannah
This was the first book I read by Kristin Hannah and 6 or so books later she has become my favorite author. This is an unforgettable, powerful WWII story about two sisters, strength, & survival. You don’t want to miss out on this read this fall.

THE GREAT ALONE by Kristin Hannah
This is probably my favorite novel by Hannah. I absolutely fell in love with this story and the characters. It’s set in Alaska in 1974 and is an epic story about the dangers Alaska brings, family abuse & ultimately what it takes to survive in an uncertain environment in and outside of the home.

THE FOUR WINDS by Kristin Hannah
Yep, another Kristin Hannah book. There is not a book from Hannah that hasn’t brought me to tears at some point. This one is set during the Great Depression, and is a powerful story of a mother’s love & strength, heroism, & a glimpse into what people went through during this hard time.

WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING by Delia Owens
I fell in love with this coming of age story and the heroine Kya!!! I put it with the historical fiction category because it is set in 1969 on the North Carolina coast. It’s heartbreaking, it’s beautifully descriptive, and ties in an edge-of-your-seat whodunit.

FANTASY:
THE INVISIBLE LIFE OF ADDIE LARUE by V.E. Schwab
I have heard such great things about this read! In the spirit of fall and spooky season, this fantasy novel will take you back to the 1700s where Addie Larue makes a deal to live forever, but no one will ever remember her. That is, until a man in a bookstore remembers her name.

THE MIDNIGHT LIBRARY by Matt Haig
This book surprised me with how good it was. It is ultimately a story of the many possibilities of “what if,” so beautifully told by Haig. It was charming, clever, and truly made me love the genre of fantasy, where anything is possible.

I hope you all enjoyed these 15 fall themed book recommendations!! Let me know in the comments which one you’d like to read first!
